"To this day, we have not had one Native American-themed television show," Yvonne Russo, CEO of Yvonne Russo Productions told Start TV. "I just felt a real need to elevate voices of our Indigenous community."
In addition to being a championing voice for representation it the film industry, Russo also started a program that teaches Native American kids how to work behind the scenes on film projects. One of her first jobs in the industry was on the set of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman and knew that production was the career path she was meant to take. "I just knew that I wanted to be a part of the stories that were going to be a change that I wanted to see," she said.
