In ''Killer in High Heels,'' Maura was framed for murder, and the team had to investigate her

  NBC/Universal

No one wants to investigate their friend and coworker, but Jane and the crew had to do their job when Maura was framed for the murder of a man she was last seen with.

Let's take a look at the episode. The opening scene shows Jane and Maura at a Charity Gala, where Maura is on the board of directors. Jane is mistaken for a waiter and becomes annoyed because, in her words, there was no good food being served. The event is hosted by golf star Tucker Franklin and his wife. Tucker introduces Maura to Brad Adams, a charming doctor who knows all about her interests.

Maura stays at the event to chat with Adams while Jane leaves. The two talk about their jobs, with Adams trying to get information from Maura about an open case. The next day, Brad is found murdered in his car with Maura's ID, and all evidence points to her as the suspect.

She is taken to jail, but Jane and the team don't believe she is the murderer. After investigating with their usual care and urgency, they find that Brad was not a doctor. He was a bouncer at a club with a criminal history and owed $39,000 in back child support. The bruise on his neck matched Sophia's, the victim of a case Brad had tried to get information about. They thought Maura might have killed him with an elbow to the neck move (one she taught Jane's mom), but it was caused by brass knuckles.

In the end, viewers learn that Tucker Franklin got Sophia pregnant and killed her so that the situation wouldn't taint his "perfect image." He also killed Brad so there wouldn't be any witnesses.
