Diana Nyad found a way to achieve her dream

Diana Nyad became the first person to swim from Cuba to Florida without a shark cage in 2013 at the age of 64. She first came to the nation's attention in 1975 when she broke the record for swimming around the island of Manhattan in New York City. In 1979, Nyad set the world distance record when she swam from North Bimini, Bahamas to Juno Beach, Florida. She was inducted into the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame in 1978 and the International Women's Sports Hall of Fame in 2006. She also had a successful career as a broadcast journalist, spending 30 years as a network sportscaster. Nyad has authored several books, including the 2015 memoir Find a Way
