"As long as they want me, I'll show up'': Tony Denison was not counting how long he played Andy Flynn
If you had the opportunity to work at a good-paying job you loved for 14+ years, would you? Many of us would say 'Yes,' especially for stability. When Tony Denison got the chance to keep playing Andy Flynn after The Closer ended, joining Major Crimes was a no-brainer.
In his 2011 interview with Smashing Interviews Magazine, Denison said the vibe on set filming the last episodes of The Closer wasn't very emotional because most of the cast was joining Major Crimes.
"Well, yes and no. I guess it will be more emotional when we get to the last six episodes which are slated for next year. Those six will air, and then it will fold into Major Crimes. I’m sure those will be sort of bittersweet in some way. But, at the same time, I imagine it would be sadder if we weren’t going to be doing another show," he explained.
Denison continued, "It’s always great to be on a hit show. I think because we’re going to be moving into the new show, Major Crimes will have a built-in audience, so hopefully we’ll have many of the same people watching. And what if it runs for seven years? Somebody asked me, “Do you think you can play this character for 14 years?” I said, “That’s it, just 14?” So, yeah, I don’t care if it falls into another show after that. It doesn’t matter. As long as they want me, I’ll show up."
Fans were happy that their favorite characters, except Kyra Sedgwick's Brenda Leigh Johnson, stayed on their screens a bit longer.
